“Just say the right pronoun.” Dramatic bodycam footage shows the moment a transgender student screams at a police officer over being misgendered. The footage, published by YouTube channel Inside The Blue TV, shows Jarrett Vick yelling at police officers at the University of Central Florida then being tasered and led away in handcuffs. Police got into an altercation with the 27-year-old after being called to the campus to deal with a disturbance. “Why do you let them get away with this,” the student yells. Officers tell them to stop yelling, before they ask: “F****** try it. Are you threatening me?” When the officer speaks into his radio saying the student is “having a breakdown” they pull him up on their preferred pronouns: “She! She! Just say the right pronoun.” Removing his pepper spray the officer urges the student to calm down. The student later asks a university employee to intervene, pleading, “just tell them to use the right pronouns” as it is causing “a lot a distress”. Police eventually taser the student after they allegedly tried to kick an officer. The incident unfolded on 5 February 2025, but video of it has only just been released. The student was reportedly charged with battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. They later pleaded not guilty to the charges and reports suggest the case was later marked as closed.
