I don’t remember EVER taking an informational form home to my parents unless it was a form that needed to be signed 😂 the only way my parents could contact my teachers was by calling the main office now parents are texting teachers on their cell phones

Adding on to the agenda comments - all through elementary school we were given an agenda at the beginning of every school year and at the end of each day the teacher would take 5-10 minutes to do “agenda time” where they would tell us all the things we needed to write down to tell

I remember we all had individual agendas and we needed to write down every single assignment we had to do and we needed to have our guardians sign it everyday to have full credit

It teaches kids they need to be responsible for their own actions. You forget you miss out, you remember you have a good time. You do the work to write things down and communicate with parents.

I remember when contacting parents via text was disrespectful. You sent a note home and it was up to them to remember / look at the note for a reminder. Only contacted parents directly in an emergency.

The texting and emails are getting out of hand. It’s borderline harassment. Sometimes they will text everyone to tell us to check the email they just sent.. it’s getting to the point where will miss important things because they send me so much stuff.

Hot take but I don’t think as a teacher I should have the responsibility of also “having a relationship” with the parents. Like why do I constantly have to talk with parents? Why do I have to phrase things in a positive way to them? I should be able to call them once, tell them the truth, then they immediately should fix the behavior

Paper calendars. Go back to paper calendars. Every kid gets one, you can email it one time a month, post it on the website.
