this made me so resentful because nobody actually talks about the cognitive load and energy it takes to "turn the mirror inwards". I hate the fact that this was never done for me by my caregivers, and now I have to take years out of my life figuring this out for myself.

This is exactly why I do daily affirmations with my son. I started doing daily affirmations for myself when he was a year old and I could barely say the affirmations while looking myself in the mirror without crying and now not only is it my son’s favorite part of our day but he is constantly repeating those affirmations to me but also to himself throughout the day especially when he’s feeling unregulated. I still don’t know exactly who I am but this little boy of mine knows exactly who he is and I couldn’t be more proud of that

I feel like this was the goal for the ppl who created our society! They wanted us to seek approval of everyone around us instead of any kind of internal sense of self worth….this is why we have schools…why our parents have to work so they have to send us to schools….why they have never ending bills taxes and debts so they have to have jobs…..like imagine how much better our world would be if our society prioritized humans over profit!

Yeah I was heavily criticized about everything growing up and that’s how I move through the world now. It stunted my development mentally but I’m doing my best to turn that around through Christ now.
