These vampire movies died after the famous actor 林正英 Lam Ching Ying died in 1997. Even the side kick 钱小豪 Chin Siu Ho couldn’t bring back those vampire movies.

A jiangshi documentary on YouTube actually says jiangshis orignated from the Hmong/Miao culture. It was popularized and mainstreamed by the Chinese/Hong Kong. Due to war and work far away from home, black magic (also common in Hmong culture) were performed on the dead to make transportation back home easier for burial.

watched mr vampire four and magic cop as a kid. they way they designed the skin on the face of that vampire looking like the skin of a dried/preserved plum still amazes me, so scary but at the same time very realistic and interesting. we don't have vampire dramas or movies like this anymore. magic cop is also a very good watch - the use of all those ancient Chinese 'technical' magic and tools are cool. Hong Kong hardly produces this kind of genre now, right? even China hardly produces it anymore. It’s kind of sad because it’s one of the Chinese genres I like a lot, but they aren't bringing it back
