I know you're not asking about the UK but in case you find it interesting, I study medicine at a uni in London and we have mandatory communication classes. We learn basics like how to take histories, how to counsel on medications, sign posting etc. but we also learn how to deal with angry/upset patients, how to counsel on making lifestyle changes, tones and phrases and body language that will help us, all really helpful stuff I use every day!

We had a 1-2 week long course that covered professionalism, commutation, empathy etc. it was lectures, group work, thought exercises and OSCE based. I found it interesting. The idea was we would then use those skills to utilize on rotations and expand our learning in real life scenarios.
