for the people who challenge what they're saying they should look up what happened to glassport Pennsylvania after a tornado hit the plant it was an entire town it was based off of glass production came to a complete halt due to losing power it took several months to clean up the mess and break all the glass up they never reopened and I believe they were the largest glass producer at the time that they shut down glassport Pennsylvania the town was named after what they did 20 minutes from Pittsburgh yes Pittsburgh was known for glass even before steel it's not just the home of PPG

Friendly reminder that this is only a problem when you are mass producing instead of focusing on quality😁.

The furnace had to stay hot, we do sometimes have a maintenance where we drain the glass from the bottom an clean it out and then do repairs but it takes months of work and alot of money. So yeah we keep the furnaces hot and running at all times so we can maintain the glass level/quality at all times. I don’t have a picture of the furnace but here is a fire polisher/glazer.

this is false whenever the furnace is get shut down they take about a week or so to reach the heat required to melt the glass that's currently slabed inside of it. so they do lose a lot of productivity but they don't have to rebuild the whole thing

Wouldn’t having a section not having glass be helpful. Like a secondary heat port?

These furnaces also keep running for about 15 years before it’s shut down and a new one is rebuilt

Depends, if its an electrically heated furnace, it absolutely can be re-melted. If its gas, then not so much
