I don't think people understand how difficult it is to have social services take somebody's kids off of them, especially in the UK.

Also social services don’t just knock on random doors and look for problems. They are alerted to potential issues when other agencies raise concerns so if they are involved in the first place at least one other agency (police, school, GP, health visitor etc) was also worried about your parental ability

Yeh the issue with social services is that they don’t intervene often enough, not the other way around.

I work in family law and handle many guardianship cases. 99% of the time when CPS fails it’s because they don’t do enough. Not because they intervened unfairly.

How do social services even get involved? There must be reason for them. I’ve managed to have children and no social services involvement, neither has anyone I know.

I got refered to social services when I was pregnant for past drug abuse and rightly so. They gave me the choice to step up or remove my son. He was put on child protection as soon as he was born within 8 weeks he was off it. I went into a mother and baby rehabilitation centre and proved to them I was clean and mentally stable. 9 months on we are at the point of moving forward with social work shutting my sons case. I happily worked with them they helped me get a new house in new area a fresh start, gave me all the support I needed. We both wanted the same thing, what was best for my son I just had to show up and prove that was me ❤

there have been many cases of social services making bad calls on who they should and shouldn't take off their parents, they aren't flawless

It costs the state a lot of money to take care of kids that were placed. Economically speaking they would only take kids away when the kid is in actual danger

I think people will often leave out the part where they went through months of court proceedings, had their own legal representation and advice, had multiple assessments and funded support to try and get them through the process. often lack of insight is the biggest barrier most parents face and it's genuinely incredibly sad

Only the police can remove a child, only a court can keep them removed. Parents can voluntary put children in care via a sect 20. Social services can build a case for court to support removal but at no point is social services removing a child

The level of requested support has to be so high for them to get involved, then there’s a 45 day assessment period, multiple professionals meetings with police, schools and medical staff. Family’s are given plans that they must follow if the criteria needs are met then there’s and meeting with them and all professionals every 6 weeks. I won’t deny that this happened however have seen many family’s have to use the care system. All of the social worker I have met don’t want children in care as there is no where for them to go.

I grew up in care and tbh there is ALWAYS a reason no matter how small. A childs safety and welfare is nothing to mess with, I'm glad I got removed and I had a pretty alright upbringing better then if I would of stayed with my 'parents'

yes, from my own personal experience as a former foster child, it can be too hard to get a child taken into foster care than it should be

A family member was/is under social services. She has 4 children & they keep trying to sign her off but she doesn’t want them to as they have helped her so much & advocated for her & her kids.

Me sitting here being moved between my mum and dads, to my nans at one point and into a foster home thing for a few months for the past 17 years I get what you mean but they didnt make my life any easier.. could have atleast kept me in my own town so I dont need to constantly change schools..
