As a Japanese descendant, please don’t forget to mention that these are preserved as nostalgic historical items—they are not the norm. Most Japanese people today have never seen these machines. Japan experienced an economic boom that ended in the early 1990s. Vending machines, taxicabs, and in many cases cars and trains carry a sentimental, nostalgic value for many Japanese people. Japan is still highly modern, but it retains many older machines because they continue to function. They remind the older generation of the economic golden age, and there is little incentive to replace something that still works. This is why they continue to exist.

yep, i bought a simple wall clock back in 2000 and it's still working! it has exactly the same motor at the back that u'll see in other wall clocks but heck, idk how they make everything so durable.

This is true every corner. I was station there for 9 years,in Okinawa, Japan There is a vending machine with food, hot or cold vending machine with drinks a vending machine with coffee, and snacks ,I can remember getting up in the middle of the night walking to the corner me and my children just to get a can of coffee and snacks ,yeah I’m a heavy coffee drinker it’s a very safe and clean environment. You can walk all night long and you don’t have to worry about anybody doing anything to you. That’s how safe it is. I have a lot of memories and lots things I brought back with me from Japan. I miss it there, I still hear from my friends that live there every week or I get a phone call or a text message email I visit at lease twice a year I really miss my mama-San and kaseifu she spoiled me and my children. 🇨🇺🇳🇮
