This reminds me of the show The Good Place. If we measure “goodness” as having to be perfect, none of us are “good” people.

People are sooo harsh on those of us who run rescues. It causes burnout and is so sad

If everyone did SOMETHING, then some of us wouldn’t have to do EVERYTHING. Please continue to make your mark on the world, doing your best!

The internet has created an epidemic of horribly negative and downright viscous judgments..

the only time I want perfection is during my surgery or on my plane ride 😅

My sister has neuropathy in her feet from chemo. She has lost friends because she doesn't attend rallies. People are so judgemental.

Reframing “assuming positive intent” to “give them the opportunity to fail” really helped the way I think about things. This provides grace for people and leads with compassion instead of staying in a cycle of hurt when people don’t do the right thing, which happens for me when I assume. It also provides me the opportunity to fail, instead of being afraid of doing the wrong thing and I try to do the right thing more and am more open to feedback and criticism when I don’t feel like I’m getting in trouble or being punished.

Could not agree more. I started a nonprofit and ran it for 21 years and you would not believe things that people picked apart rather than focusing on the overall impact

Yes. The constant moral purity testing is exhausting and dissuades people from doing anything positive. It is harmful.

If everyone could do one act of compassion we could solve so many problems in the pet world and others— just try to do good. Love this post Isabel.

Yes! I hosted a poetry night recently and it didn’t go *perfectly*, though overall was a nice night. I had to tell myself “it was brave to try” to get myself over the thought that it didn’t go perfectly. It’s better that it happened 💗

Negative comments often speak more about the commenter than the one receiving the message. Being on social media requires a tough skin - as you have to keep the positive perspective within yourself and know the negative comments can and should be overlooked.

We’re all human. We are innately imperfect. I think it’s more important that we try.

we have a saying in portuguese that play with the words "feito" (done) and "perfeito" (perfect): "feito é melhor que perfeito", which means done is better than perfect. it means that it's better to do anything than to wait for something to be perfectly done.

Practice makes progress, not perfection. I tell my niece and nephew this all the time when they get upset that something doesn’t go exactly to plan.

If everyone did something good, literally everything would be better. It's all we need... everyone doing something. We never needed someone doing everything 🫶🏼

In my sobriety program we say, “progress not perfection.” We do the very best we can, which I think adds so much to the world! Imagine how terrible the world would be if we all gave up doing good because we can’t achieve perfection.
