@therapistinrecovery: The truth of the matter is that we live in a society that really fuels OCD with the rigid expectations we have for people, the lack of vulnerability, the fear we monger, the over access to information, the list goes on. So naturally, there are many things I hear that make me want to gauge my ears out. Here are a few. You have my permission to ignore these phrases ❤️ Like and follow for a part two!! #ocd #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #ocdtherapist #anxietytherapist #ocdtok
I use "not a hell yes, it's a hell no" when I'm shopping so I don't go home w a bunch of shit I don't need, and that's the only context I've found it to be helpful

The last part about thoughts. Like it’s almost physically impossible to say my intrusive thoughts out loud. So any big negative reaction would actually reinforce that intrusive thought and send me on a spiral

The “trust your gut” is the worst. My gut is always in a knot, I won’t trust in it.

This explains why I sat on the fence about having kids for almost 4 years. People kept saying “if you know you know…” well I could see both paths and it was really fucking hard to decide

I feel like “you tried your best” is also harmful to say to people who don’t actually want to get better. The people who don’t want to heal the wounds that they take out on others. I could be using my personal experience, but that phrase will let someone like that continue on the path of not actually healing but also passing trauma on to others

The phrase that has been so helpful on my OCD/anxiety journey is “it’s not perfect, but it’s better” I feel like I validate myself but also praise myself in the same sentence. And it encourages me to actually do the things I used to hard stop myself from doing because I knew I couldn’t do them perfectly.
