You’re so close. As a near death experience survivor I’ve learned that the issue is limiting our understanding through singularity. We aren’t just one soul; we are everything all at once; but our focus right at this moment in time is on the part of us which resides within the body. This is where déjà vu and intuition come into play; there are infinite numbers of ourself within time in space experiencing different illusions of what we might call reality . In short, when, (in physical death) this one part of ourselves are released from the body where we eventually re-assimilate with our Home Source (The energy light force), “the creator”, or as I refer to it “The All of Everything”. The soul isn’t one thing; it’s everything

Perhaps the soul is more complex than just two sides of the brain.

The soul is separate from the brain. You're making the mistake of confusing the soul with the brain & personality. The soul is spiritual. And I believe the soul we each have during our lifetime is just a piece of the whole that it returns to after this body di3s.

As I am agnostic, I’m also very skeptical of the concept of a soul but this reasoning isn’t really resonating with me. I never related the soul to the brain….maybe more so the heart🤔

I like how you think about certain things. But I’d say you’re limiting the placement of the soul to one area of the body, the brain. If you haven’t already, I’d study Aristotle’s metaphysics. Ontologically the soul isn’t contained to any one place in the body. I personally am still studying this way of thinking bc at the end of the day philosophy is only the result of human reason and can’t be scientifically proven. But it’s something I’d consider looking into.

The soul may or may not exist, but if it does - it would be far more complex than we can imagine and it could (why not after all) split in two, it could exist in more than one being at time, it could remotely operate a body like a drone, it could manipulate the brain and the body to function in unexpected ways, maybe it could even manipulate inanimate objects telepathically, etc. There is nothing that we can say it certainly cannot do - because we wouldn’t be able to empirically measure, explain, document etc. We are just human trying to understand something that is supposed be transcending dimensions. What???

I’m agnostic, but I don’t think this is a logically sound argument against the existence of a soul. It largely depends on how one defines “soul.” If we think of it as an intangible or non-physical entity, there’s no obvious reason to assume it must correspond one-to-one with a single conscious process in the brain. Even if the brain’s hemispheres can function somewhat independently, that doesn’t necessarily imply the existence of two separate souls, nor does it disprove the existence of a soul altogether. The conclusion doesn’t seem to follow from the premise.

I think we all contain multitudes and conflicting opinions and beliefs. Just because the two halves have differing opinions doesn't mean they're not both a part of the same soul. With the twins, it sounds like you're making the assumption that if a soul exists it must reside within the brain? I'm not sure how sharing sensory input and some brain structures means they don't have a soul or two souls.

Research is pretty depressing in the free will sense, and we are just a really good neural network. It's fine...but at the end of the day, we seem to be just really meaty computers with microbe hangabouts.
And why not, most of the observable universe is hydrogen and nickel. Meh
Still got that thirst, ya know.

The energy is never created or destroyed thing always strikes as nonsense. If your soul/consciousness is energy, then how many joules is a soul? Its applying the Law of conservation of energy to something that is not energy.

You’re thinking about this too literally. There could be one soul in two bodies. The soul is not that connected to the body.

That’s saying the soul is in the brain. Preference isn’t evidence of a soul. Physical sensation isn’t evidence of a soul. Those things are responses to signal/information/stimuli

An argument against the idea that the soul is merely a product of the brain is that what we call the “mind” may not be identical to neural activity, but rather something that uses the brain as an interface—since subjective experience, meaning, and self-awareness cannot be fully reduced to physical processes, it suggests the possibility that consciousness (or soul) is not created by the brain, but expressed through it.

This is difficult because I agree with you in a technical sense. However I do find the social idea of protecting one’s soul to be a useful one. In other words I believe in souls as a conceptualization of one’s internal consistency with their own sacred ideals. In other other words, you can’t hold your soul, but you can sell it. I said all that to say I think it’s this difference in colloquial use that leads to a lot of general confusion and disagreement.

What if souls are not conscious? The arguments given against it are based on if a soul has consciousness, personality and thoughts. But what if those are traits of the brain but not of a soul?

Carl Jung talks about the conscious and the unconscious aka awareness versus our hidden psyche. It could be that some of the answers in the experiment stemmed from the unconscious and because in modern age we don’t practice viewing our unconscious through dream analysis, or other techniques we’re less aware of the deep parts of our brain or I would say “soul” or inner being. That lack of awareness prevents us from seeing a deeper side of our identities, therefore resulting in confusing answers since we don’t even know ourselves and don’t practice deeper discoveries into our subconscious in modern day. We only follow what we see with our eyes but our brain stores so much more than that.
