"They are using me." I've heard that statement countless times, especially from young professionals and entrepreneurs. Every time I hear it, I ask one simple question: *Who told you being used is always a bad thing?* Let me challenge your thinking. If nobody ever uses your gifts, your skills, your ideas, or your time, how do you become useful? Every successful person you admire today was "used" at some point. They served. They learned. They solved problems. They earned trust. That process shaped them into the people they are today. The problem is not being used. The problem is being exploited without growth or purpose. There is a big difference. When I wanted to learn from Dr. Cosmas Maduka, I didn't wait for him to discover me. I approached him myself. I said, "Sir, use me." Why? Because I knew that proximity to wisdom would change my life. Every assignment was an opportunity to learn. Every responsibility gave me access. Every experience made me more valuable. It was never a one-sided relationship. While I added value to him, I was also gaining knowledge, mentorship, and perspective that money couldn't buy. Many people today want the rewards without first becoming valuable. They want influence without service, promotion without preparation, and success without sacrifice. That mindset will keep you stagnant. Stop asking, "Who is using me?" Start asking, "What am I becoming through this experience?" If you're learning, growing, building relationships, developing competence, and positioning yourself for greater opportunities, then you're not being used—you are being developed. Sometimes the fastest way to the top is through service. Sometimes your greatest breakthrough comes because you chose to contribute before you demanded to be compensated. The people who become indispensable are the people who make themselves useful. Don't run away from opportunities to serve. Choose them wisely. Ensure the relationship creates value for both sides. Because when you intentionally add value, you don't become smaller, you become more valuable. And the more valuable you become, the more impossible you are to ignore. DSA!
