@flyman_simon: Replying to @HeyMyLoves💕 It’s hard to imagine how something as heavy as an airliner can get into the air, but the forces involved are enormous. As the aircraft moves forward, huge amounts of air rush over and under the wings. The wing is specially shaped so the airflow helps create lift, which is the force that gets the aircraft off the ground and keeps it there. Now add the speed of take-off, often around 150 to 180 mph, and those aerodynamic forces become incredibly powerful. Much more powerful than most people realise. That’s why a wing does not need to flap or do anything dramatic. It is simply designed brilliantly to turn speed and airflow into lift. Modern aircraft wings are engineering masterpieces, and once you understand the scale of the forces involved, it becomes much easier to see why flying is so normal and so reliable.
