calls out, they get mad. Go in sick, accidentally gets someone else such, they get mad. You call out but they want a doctors note but they don't offer health insurance nor offer PTO or sick leave so you're already missing out on money and they expect you to pay to be sick for a note

I'm too european for this. That is so unprofessional, that she's even bothering you and asking what you have. I'm currently sick. I'm due for an operation. I'll probably be in recovery until May. Until then I'm sick and I get paid. All I have to do is to send a doctors notice and let my manager know when I'll be good again to work. That's it.

When my son was 4 (2011) he got Chicken Pox. Legally was not permitted into any school/childcare facility. Told my job i would need to be out for the week, and gave the documentation from his pediatrician & preschool..... they threatened to fire me, and suggested I have him "just color in the office while I work", at 4, for 10hrs/day, with Chicken Pox. This was a restaurant btw.

for clarification, in the us is sick time like paid sick leave but if you run out you can still take off if you're sick unpaid or does the sick time refer to being able to take off while sick in general?

I told my manager that I was sick and wouldn’t be able to come into work for a while, she said to let her know when I felt better. Morning after I get a call from other manager questioning why I’m not at work, I explain and she threatens to fire if I don’t show up. I’m annoyed so I quit, my health is more important than anything🤷♀️
