@theveterandogtrainer: Littermate Syndrome Part 4 They drove 4 hours to get answers… and this one hit different. Because this wasn’t just a client, this was a fellow veteran. This veteran and his family made the trip hoping for clarity… and what they walked into was chaos. Two littermates. German Shepherd / Malinois mixes. Raised together… but worlds apart. Koda — pacing, anxious, completely overwhelmed. Loki — shut down, freezing, submissive urination inside the crate. One dog can’t stop moving. The other won’t move at all. This is what littermate syndrome actually looks like. Constant tension. No independence. No ability to regulate without each other. It took over 20 minutes just for Koda to settle… and over 30 minutes for Loki to finally come out of a full freeze state. That’s not “just energy.” That’s a nervous system stuck in survival mode. We had a real conversation— the kind most people avoid. Including the possibility of rehoming one dog. Not because they don’t care… but because doing what’s best isn’t always easy. And there was no way I was sending a fellow veteran and his family home empty handed so even though we went over time on the consultation, I stepped in and showed them exactly where to start. 👇 Honest question: If you were in this position… would you commit to keeping both dogs and doing the work it takes? or would you separate them knowing it might be the right call? #DogTraining #dogtrainer #dogs #dogsoftiktok #dog

I’ve said it before on your videos but as a behavior analyst myself, these are things I’m constantly teaching people I support! Teaching people about behavior and to understand how to change it. The way that you explain it is spot on, which I’m sure you know 😂 but much appreciated

Would this same technique of cutting off behavior via the leash work for a Dachshund whose main mission in life is to find and eat poo on the walks and in the parks? I’ve had to stop letting her off the leash due to this behavior. She is 8 yo

The longer I watched this particular video the more I realized how constantly stressed out and uncomfortable my Rottweiler is. she's incapable of relaxing unless she's in her kennel. Do you have a set of videos for that specific breed? 😫😭

Separate for the best interest of the dogs. A family with small children wont have the time to keep up with management. Not a realistic expectation.

Breaks my heart to hear that, while I understand one has to get re-homed, thinking of a sad life ahead for this poor dog if anyone is willing to home him and put in the work. Shame on bad yard breeders and not educating first time dog owners on these consequences we don’t naturally know! Thanks for the content helpful education!

Dan this was a top notch series. 👏 I’m glad that there is honesty in every meeting you have with clients. I’m glad you said the first dog, because anxious dogs are hard. Especially with kids in the picture.

Only thing i can disagree with is the timing of off leash and on leash training. My dog is far from perfect lmao but i trained him off leash first and now i can confidently take him anywhere off leash. Obviously i use an e collar but thats mainly for his hyper activeness

I’ve been watching your videos for a while. I have a question if you have a solution? I have a 7 year old dachshund and an about 4 year old I’m guessing Rott and corgi mix. She’s from the pound. I rescued her maybe 4 months ago and they didn’t get along at first then quickly become besties. Recently, they started fighting when I’m eating. I guess hoping I would give them some. They show teeth and growl then go at it. They stop immediately when I get in the middle. How do I fix or prevent that?

Can crating dogs be a correction for them? Or should I try to avoid that?

Any feedback for a dog who was dropped off by prior owners? When we drive outside his “known” world, nonstop shaking, pacing, drooling, etc.

My spoo is the first dog I’ve needed a professional trainer for because she had me trained because I underestimated how smart she is…(aside from swallowing a sock🥲). Her trainer called her a toddler because she pouts and tries to suck up after corrections and I can attest to how frustrating her shutting down can be. Luckily it’s gotten much better but going from a reactive dog to her has been a bit of a shock for sure!
