@meghannmcuniff: The son of a Maui anesthesiologist accused of trying to murder his wife on an O'ahu hiking trail last year testified in his attempted murder trial today that he told him he tried to kill her during a phone call before he was arrested. Emile Konig took the stand this afternoon (Tuesday, March 31) in Judge Paul B.K. Wong's courtroom in Hawaii's 1st Circuit Court in Honolulu. He said he was home when "the defendant," his father, Gerhardt Konig, called him on FaceTime. Emile said his father was wearing sunglasses and dry fit shirt, and he said he "would not be making it back to Maui and to take good care of the younger kids, and that he had, that Ari, my stepmom, had been cheating on him and that he tried to kill her." "How did you react to the defendant telling you he tried to kill Arielle?" Garner asked. "I don't remember what I said," Konig answered. "Do you recall what the defendant told you after he said he tried to kill Arielle?" Garner asked. "Not directly after," Konig answered. "Did he say where Arielle went?" Garner asked. "No, just away," Konig answered. "What do you say about Arielle and away?" Garner asked. "He said that she had gotten away, and that was all I heard about her location," Konig answered. He said he asked his father "what was on his shirt" because it looked like I saw splatters of something on his shirt. And he said, 'Oh, it's just her — meaning Ari's — blood.'"
