I spent 10 years winning at the wrong game. Career advice I needed at 22, not 32. 1️⃣ A ladder does not care if it is the right one. It rewards you exactly the same for climbing the wrong one. Promotions do not mean you are on track. They mean you are good at what you are currently doing. 2️⃣ First in, last out is not dedication. I had the longest commute on my team and still stayed the latest. I called it work ethic. It was me never learning to say no. 3️⃣ You can lose yourself and still look successful. Panic attacks, stomach ulcers, Sunday dread. My body kept score before I did. I ignored all of it because the title said I was winning. 4️⃣ Financial security and identity security are not the same thing. I had one. Not the other. It took a pandemic and a full stop to realize how far apart those two had drifted. 5️⃣ People celebrating your wins cannot see what those wins are costing you. They see the title. They do not see the rest. 6️⃣

I was not a salesperson underneath any of it. 7️⃣ Leaving is not failure. I called off an engagement, left a country, and started from nothing. That was not rock bottom. That was the first honest decision I had made in years. 8️⃣ I was a top performer in two careers back to back. Both times I sat across from senior leaders making great money, completely miserable. I thought I was different. The pattern was always the same. 9️⃣ A decade in the wrong lane is not wasted. The skills transfer. The credibility travels. What changes is what you choose to do with it next. 🔟 Career security was never a ladder. It is what you build yourself, on purpose, so no single job can hold your identity hostage again. If you have the title, the salary, and the track record and still feel like something is off, that feeling has a name. And a next step.
