@withalvin: Ghana advances plan to turn national ID into digital wallet Ghana is moving closer to becoming the first African nation to activate a native e-wallet within its Ghana Card, reducing reliance on external payment giants for local transactions. The National Identification Authority announced plans to transform the card from a simple ID into a functional digital payment tool. The system will allow users to load funds onto the card for direct payments and also transfer money seamlessly between cardholders. It is being designed as a universal platform, enabling all financial institutions to integrate rather than limiting it to a single bank. The initiative is also expected to generate significant revenue for the NIA through transaction fees, supporting its long-term operations.
