Like what do you mean “no one can fully explain it?” This is Gümüşler monastery in Türkiye. It was made by Greek Christians between the 8th and 12th century, it was built away from settlements bc these ppl faced persecution for their beliefs. Like the other underground churches and dwellings in Cappadocia, it’s dug into soft volcanic rock. Easy to work and to carve.
