Science behind it: the air pressure in the ball is so high that it wants the air molecules to escape outward, and equalize with the atmospheric pressure (the pressure outside of the ball). When you slam the ball on the ground, you decrease its volume and increase its already high pressure, making the ball pop so that the tightly packed air molecules can finally escape from the ball into the atmosphere and equalize in pressure.
