Everyone in the comments fails to realize that the reason Venom hardly speaks is because HE is YOU. He leaves room for you to react to everything in the story so that the twist at the end can better work, the twist that Venom Snake was you all along. A scapegoat for the true big boss to rebuild elsewhere while the world watches you. It's far easier to put yourself into the shoes of a mostly blank canvas rather than one that has a bunch of opinions and beliefs that might differ from your own. I think that's WHY he works so well.
