“I'm redoing my wudu… for the eleventh time.” Wassim, 19. 6:05 a.m., the bathroom. He counts on his fingers, turns the tap back on, starts over. His hands are red and cracked. Behind the door, his father is losing patience: the sun is about to rise. And in his head, thoughts he dares not tell anyone. Some companions said to the Prophet ﷺ: “We find within ourselves thoughts so grave that none of us dares to speak of them.” He asked: “Do you really feel that?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “That is clear faith.” (Muslim 132, narrated by Abu Hurayra) About these whispers (al-waswasa), he also said: “It is pure faith.” (Muslim 133) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has forgiven my followers the evil thoughts that occur to their minds, as long as such thoughts are not put into action or uttered.” (al-Bukhari 5269; Muslim 127) “We have not sent down to you the Qur’ān that you be distressed.” (Quran 20:2, Saheeh International — recitation: Mishary al-Afasy) Waswas is the whispering of Shaytan: doubts about your wudu, about your prayer, thoughts you hate. Hating them is already faith. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Shaytan comes to one of you… When he reaches that, let him seek refuge in Allah and stop.” (al-Bukhari 3276; Muslim 134, narrated by Abu Hurayra) 🤲 Remember: فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ وَلْيَنْتَهِ Fal-yastaʿidh billāhi wal-yantahi “Let him seek refuge in Allah, and stop.” When these whispers come back: “Aʿūdhu billāhi mina-sh-shayṭāni-r-rajīm” (I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, the accursed)… and don't start over. And if it's too much for you, get help: talk to someone you trust, a doctor, or a helpline in your country. Before Ramadan… if this is you, talk about it. You are not alone. Out of respect, the Prophet ﷺ and his companions are not depicted. 📱 Learn your religion from the source with As-Siraj: free on the App Store, iPhone and iPad. 🌙 Goal: become better before Ramadan.
