@c5news: The Artemis II crew are due to begin their outer space adventure at 11.24pm UK time. The four astronauts will be the first humans to return to the Moon in more than 50 years, with their 10-day journey taking them further from Earth than anyone has ever been. The crew won’t land on the Moon’s surface, but the expectation is that they will return with key insights on the lunar environment, paving the way for a future landing. After take-off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, once the rocket reaches about 45,000 miles, the Orion spacecraft – which houses the crew – will separate from the launcher. If all is well, at that point, the Orion will blast free of the Earth’s gravity towards the Moon. The journey around the moon and back is 685,000 miles. #space #artemis #Moon #Earth #NASA
