@gok.exe: This is a 2 minute video so there’s obviously a lot I wasn’t able to say. I imagine objections to what I’m saying here will center around the economic realities of furthering your education. That it’s heinously expensive and often offers dubious ROI. This can absolutely be the case. But there are many concrete forms of higher education that are both enriching and economically valuable. And there are also ways to further your education that aren’t institutional in nature (eg LLMs, self study). Again, I’m not interested so much in in giving advice here. I don’t know your life. Perhaps college doesn’t make sense for you. But, for those who have the opportunity to further their education and are on the fence about it, please strongly consider taking it. #education #medstudent
I agree to an extent, but education is only worthwhile if the ROI is there. The economy is too rough to get degrees that don’t return. Healthcare (MD/DO, PharmD, RN), law, or engineering are the only worthwhile degrees.

I am an MD too and Midwest… but my blue collar friends are doing really well, in general, with lives that are rich in work family and so on. Financially? They seem to be doing great. I would describe zero percent of them as “stuck”. Nevertheless it’s a privilege to be us. Yet I look at their lives and they seem to lead equally charming but different lives, HVAC, construction managers, contractors, crane business owners. It takes all kinds

I would go further and say major in the sciences or math instead of business or IT. I even think subjects like philosophy and English are valuable because of the loss of critical thinking due to AI.

I am glad I went further and it paid off but more importantly I so enjoyed the environment where I picked up so much by being there and learning along the way. It was a highlight for me but I’m older and it was accessible and affordable back then. I worry our brightest and creative minds aren’t being encouraged and developed

Nah man I 100% agree. I grew up in poverty and had an inquisitive nature and did nothing but read up until high school. I eventually started college. I have 2 associates ( 1 regular and the other for my paramedic), I’m now getting my bachelors in applied economics, then I plan on doing my JD/ and maybe a dual program to finish with my MBA. Then I may go get my ISE. Having a education does wonders for you either way, and getting a degree in something that is related STEM is the way to go

Wow man, this is everything. Thank you. As an 18-year-old about to start college this fall at Duke University, this honestly gave me even more motivation to keep pursuing my pre-health track majoring in neuroscience. It’s genuinely inspiring, so thank you man. Like you said, it gives me more confidence to fight for my own potential and keep going.

High iq post, education gives you a much farther view of the world and doesn’t limit your opportunities.
