Well said! I’ve seen this many times and various of situations and this is not talked about a lot or even how to deal with it because some people just put up boundaries / walls and they stopped there but never do any inner work, etc. Or can put a name to what happened to them and how to deal /heal from it etc.. thoughts?

Currently going through this. I was always the butt of the joke or treated like an annoying pest. Until they needed or wanted something. No more. The people who claim to love you should listen when you say you feel hurt or disrespected. They shouldn’t deflect, gaslight, or make your feeling the problem. I deserve better and always have.

this is so my father growing up! I would eventually cry..then be made fun of for being a sensitive baby. as an only child, no one defended me..well sometimes my mom would but then crack some other joke about me. I was known as the pouter cuz I would just shutdown..both as a child and an adult.

8 years no contact with my family. I felt like everything I did was scrutinized. If I was shared a success I was "too good for them". If I shared a hardship they had no sympathy. If I said nothing, somehow also "too good". I left and it allowed me to heal by leaps and bounds.

And then when I cried, they would ask why I was being so sensitive.

this hot and cold treatment has happened my whole life. my aunt we don't apologize in this family we just start talking again. no in my house we apologize. we repair. silent treatment is exhausting

I've moved to England and this feels like a fairly normal dynamic in families and friend groups? Teasing is seen as affection. I don't mind some sarcasm, but have always felt uncomfortable about personal jabs.

They never liked me (and as a result, I'm still trying to figure out who 'me' even is...). They only liked what I could provide. But I'm done

Yep! I can confirm! I haven’t heard from anyone for over a decade, even though I’ve tried to reach out. They really never liked me… and it hurt me for so long

Yup, and yet I'm the bad one for going no contact when I noticed they started to turn my oldest into the one they made react poorly. They did that with me, until I stopped letting them affect me.

It's bruuuuuutal. Big on the laying the groundwork for overt hostile behavior as adults. I've been healing, learning, growing, trying to communicate more clearly and accessibly, and have been met with overt hostility. Now I know how deep it goes and distance and boundaries are the next step. It is a soul crushing feeling, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
