see my personal take on it was a little different. since there was never a specification of multiple people i always read it as like, when you let your gaurd down and you get vunerable and intimate, maybe with a freind or someone else you wanted to know better or something like that and then you just... dont talk about it. both of you want to talk about it, maybe it would even go well, but the unconsidred vulnerability in the aftermath makes it feel impossible

see i took it as like pretty much the same but with out the other person i felt like its a natural sad drift that kept growing between 2 people that truly wanted it to work but hes unable to express that deep and craving love that while not talked about was there and now your both no longer in communication so you just have to sit with the guilt of letting it get so bad that not only did you lose your self but them all in a go all bc you couldn't express what you where feeling in a full truth idk you might not care but thats how it felt for me just 2 lovers who wanted it to work who became something the "earings" are the lost heart in the relationship and him finding someone to fill the void only to just think about the girl he truly loves and is seeing drift off

Literally my situation rn My interpretation of the song is having a crush on someone but being too afraid of what the future holds.
