People overuse the word “narcissist,” and that’s part of the problem. Not every toxic person is a narcissist but real narcissistic dynamics are a lot more complex than people think. I know it’s difficult for people to understand situations they have never been in, So your opinion on this is invalid to me and should be for others. If you’ve never dealt with it, it’s easy to believe it’s as simple as “just leave.” But those situations can involve manipulation, emotional dependency, and patterns that aren’t obvious from the outside. At the same time, people can absolutely have toxic or narcissistic traits without having a full diagnosis, and those situations can still be really hard to get out of. No one is obligated to stay in a relationship or friendship that’s draining them. But it does leave a bad taste when someone drops a friend who’s clearly struggling and then talks badly about them instead of showing any compassion. Unless your friend started treating you like crap then I understand. There’s a difference between setting boundaries and being dismissive. And yes people in those situations also have to look inward at some point. Growth means asking yourself why you tolerated certain behavior, what patterns you fell into, and how to avoid it in the future. That’s not about blame it’s about accountability and not repeating the same cycle.
