otohime is just another example of someone trying to change a fundamentaly broken system from within, it's just not possible. that's why fisher tiger was her foil who fought for change.

This is a really refreshing take on that part of one piece tbh

Otohime is definitely too idealistic. This is mostly due too her position in the fishman hierarchy, she never truly suffered like her people did.

Queen Otohime reminds me of that specific Celestial Dragon who went down from Mary Goise to be "human". Idealistic, has good intentions, however, too naive.

no i agree with you. i think oda showed how she failed her country. this would be clear if people continue reading through the manga (elbaph arc) & see how this problem keeps coming back & if someone approaches it the way otohime does, they will always fail & hurt those entrusted to them.

I AGREE 100%. Bruh when I watched this arc I had massive criticism for the whole royal fam of fishman island despite being very nice they weren’t being good or strong leaders. Neptune was slippin which directly led to the people losing faith in their leadership and the festering of problems which led to Hordy jones type figures

this is why the queen was such a good character to have in this arc. she was representing idealistic views, and fisher tiger was representing the realists of the word. yes she was definitely naive, but people like her are needed to inspire. there has to be a start, and while someone like her would never be the answer (because she's too naive), he existence is both an inspiration and a lesson for those after her. and I actually think she was self-aware of who she was and that reality was against her, and that's why she said what she said when she was dying... great writing for the story

NGL you haven’t had a bad take yet 😭 some people love reading one piece with rose colored glasses on. Like Oda wrote the characters this way so their actions could be criticized.

people were mad about this take? i mean thats why fisher tiger was there to begin with, to show why she was fundamentally wrong

Without idealistic people that try to reach even further than what is "possible" and "realistic" nothing would be done. She lived to stretch what people are able to dream about, to let fishman get out of their fear and dare to dream about more. Yes, suffering is involved, as always, as with any change, either way, that doesn't mean that people have to stop dreaming about a better future even if they have to suffer in the way towards it, what series have you been reading? Because that's the whole point.

Queen Otohime was not planning to take the Fishmen to the surface immediately and force them up there lol. She went to the surface to prove that she could return safely to instil hope in her people. She just wants her people to WANT to go to the surface instead of accepting being stuck on the ocean floor. The petition was to express interest. It's idealistic, naive and the future of it is frightening, but it is a start

Thats correct. It's good that you mention Noland, and youll find this characteristic in more than a couple of other characters later on.

I 100% agree and i think its very purposeful. Almost every member of the strawhats also have naive goals but also wanna make it happen and genuinely believe they can. Finding the mythical all blue, making a map of the entire world, becoming king of the pirates, becoming a brave warrior of the sea, becoming a cure all, sailing all the way around the world. And luffys also putting thw whole crew in danger just for his goal. It may not make her a good leader but i think its supposed to show how the world government treats people with dreams and how her naive ideals can make an impact on those in the future.

otohime was a wonderful person, but she had the unfortunate flaw of believing all people were as good and honest as she was.

She lived months with the celestial dragons. I don’t think she is naive. She is hopeful but that doesn’t make her naive
