@goliathliftzz: During the Cold War, Soviet sports scientists studied strength training with incredible precision. Inside specialized laboratories, researchers analyzed how elite lifters trained, recovered, and developed strength over time. One surprising pattern appeared again and again: The strongest athletes rarely relied on training to failure. Instead, the Soviet training system emphasized frequent practice of heavy lifts, often repeating the same movements multiple times per week while stopping short of exhaustion. This approach helped Soviet athletes dominate Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting-style strength competitions for decades. Many modern strength coaches still draw from these principles when designing programs to build muscle and develop maximal strength. But the debate in the strength world is far from settled… Some lifters believe training to failure is essential. Others argue that high-frequency strength training produces better long-term results. So what do you think? Is the best way to build strength through maximum effort and failure training, or through frequent practice of heavy lifts? #strengthtraining #soviettraining #powerlifting #trainhardorgohome #hardcoregym

Not training till failure makes you stronger than training till failure in my opinion that’s why powerlifters train that way

They also had gear no? “The development of muscle-building properties of testosterone was pursued in the 1940s, in the Soviet Union and in Eastern Bloc countries…”

You shouldn’t always train to failure, but you need to sometimes train to failure to know how to stop accurately before failure and still train hard enough

When I knew who was kicking in is when I would take say a 95 pound dumbbell and I would do one arm dumbbell incline presses on a low incline I went from doing 10 reps to automatically doing 25 reps in less than a week

OK let's be honest they were tremendous athletes they all had very good genetics and when you take very good genetically gifted athletes and you give them good quality steroids and all they gotta do is sleep and eat and train that's what you're gonna get you're gonna get champions

Besides AAS, they ATE insane amount of potatoes, grains and chicken and pork. So carbs and protein every single meal. In some documentary about that era, many of the elite athletes ate this 4 to 6 times per day, even breakfast was pork sausage and eggs. Europeans, Asians and American athletes didn’t even eat half that. Its way too often forgotten that their diet was what we consider “bulking” or “dirty” today. High carb, high protein and high fat

I think the jury’s out, fatigue is the greatest enemy of strength but a primary component of hypertrophy training. And failure is a quick and dirty way to accumulate fatigue for actual muscle accumulation. The Soviet lifters were the genetic elite of their nation due to the eastern block system for weeding through their populations for the truly gifted. Let’s not forget that they could afford frequent high volumes at moderate intensity to build pristine efficient technique. They were as well on massive doses of drugs too with all the recuperative help mother Russia could offer. They built muscle from the drugs, they built technique from the practice
