If your house is wired in conduit you might not have a copper cord because the conduit acts as the ground.

So that electrical cab is called a nut a wire nut and it’s better to throw those orange ones away and get some better ones at Home Depot. Those orange ones are crappy and they can create loose connections overtime.

That tool you mentioned is called a Phase Tester/ Non-Contact Voltage Tester. I got to use mine a couple days ago because we FINALLY yeeted all of our 90s “boob light” flush mounts lol.
