The only exception to this that I think works is The Cruel Prince, because Cardan’s beauty is both a part of species that separates him from Jude, but also a sort of weapon for him. She calls him beautiful the same way you acknowledge a poisonous plant to be pretty. So I think it works for them

like how much more powerful would it be if during the enemies to lovers transition, a sign that they're starting to feel differently is that they suddenly start to think "wait, have his eyes always been that pretty?" it feels like the author needs to flag to the audience "don't worry this is actually the love interest"

If they mention how good looking the “enemy” is you know it’s going to be a bad enemies to lovers. Like it’s not going to be a true E to L and they’ll be in love by chapter four. I hate it too. Fast burns are so boring.

This needs to happen in the redemption arc and the FMC goes after hating that man for pages and pages: "I never noticed the gold in his eyes" or "did he always have dimples when he smiles" and then starts changing her perspective SLOWLY otherwise I am out.
