Traditional Venda prayer before the arrival of Europeans🇿🇦😊👑🙏🙏🙏 Before the arrival of Europeans, the Vhavenda practiced an indigenous belief system rooted in deep reverence for a supreme creator and ancestral spirits. Rather than formal, individual prayer, their spiritual communication was a communal and sacred dialogue, deeply interconnected with nature, rainmaking, and rites of passage. The Vhavenda worshipped a supreme, universal God known as Nwali (or Raluvhimba). He was seen as the creator of mankind and the provider of rain. Because He was viewed as a distant, supreme force, prayers were often channeled to Him through the ancestors during times of crisis, such as droughts or natural disasters. Ancestors were regarded as an active, living part of the community. Prayers and offerings were made to them to ask for protection, peace, and good fortune. People communicated their needs directly to the Vhadzimu, who in turn were believed to intercede on their behalf with the supreme creator. The Makhadzi (a respected sister or female elder of the royal family) and traditional healers (Nganga) served as vital spiritual intermediaries. The Makhadzi played a central role in invocations, often leading public rituals and prayers to the spiritual realm on behalf of the community. Specific natural sites, such as sacred mountains and water sources, were highly revered as portals to the spiritual world. The Vhavenda practiced libations, pouring traditional beer or water as offerings, to appease the spirits and express gratitude Prayer and worship were heavily communal. Ceremonies like the Thevhula (ancestral veneration and thanksgiving) and various initiation rites (Domba or Musevhetho) served as times of intense spiritual connection through drumming, dancing, and singing. -www.luonde.co.za🙏 -SciELO SA🙏 #vendatiktokers #vendasonline #venda #vendas #vendatiktok
