@laughistry.exe: ⚖️😭😭 The Mummy Returns (2001) — This high-octane sequel stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and marks the cinematic debut of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. While the “Scorpion King” CGI is often ridiculed today, there’s a real-world reason for its “janky” look: the VFX team didn’t have enough time with Johnson. Because of his packed WWE schedule, the artists couldn’t perform a proper scan of his face, forcing them to build his digital likeness from limited reference photos at the very last minute. Young Freddie Boath, who played Alex O’Connell, was such a massive fan of the first Mummy film that he had memorized every line and detail. He actually turned down a role in the first Harry Potter movie just to be in this sequel. On set, he became the unofficial “Mummy Consultant,” frequently correcting the director and cast on plot points from the original 1999 movie whenever they had a question about the franchise’s lore. The thrilling double-decker bus chase through London features a scene where the bus’s roof is ripped off by a low bridge. During filming, the stunt went wrong on the first attempt when the bus windows shattered too early. The crew had to bring in a second bus and redo the entire sequence. Additionally, Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velásquez trained for five months in martial arts to perform their epic palace duel themselves, choosing to use real (but dulled) weapons to make the clashing sounds authentic.
