@hadarshemeshenglish: One thing I never really understood about traditional language courses was why they teach so many unfamiliar words, when people still struggle to put together basic sentences. This became more apparent after my family moved to Barcelona, and I saw my daughter's homework as she was learning Spanish as a second language. Tons and tons of words...words I didn't even know in English, let alone use in my native language! Now listen, I'm all for learning specific vocabulary when you need it. But if someone is still trying to grasp the basics of a language, a bunch of word lists is NOT the answer! So, what is the answer? Being able to successfully integrate the words you KNOW but can't USE when you speak. By focusing on practicing those, you minimize the gap between the language you know vs. the language you use.
