@math.infinitum: The Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution in two dimensions A classical molecular dynamics simulation of a two-dimensional gas. Initially, all particles have the same speed magnitude but random directions of motion. As perfectly elastic collisions occur, kinetic energy is redistributed, and the system gradually approaches thermodynamic equilibrium. The lower graph shows how the averaged empirical speed distribution converges to the theoretical Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution a fundamental result of statistical physics. #maxwell #boltzmann #distribution #statistical #thermodynamic
That’s not what people typically refer to when they talk about molecular dynamics simulations. Usually it’s either aiMD or semi empirical FFs

Either the speech or the graph is wrong. If they were initialized with the same speed they would all be in 1 bar on the histogram.

does the maximum velocity of the Boltzmann distribution is linked to the initial velocity of the particles ?

Why does equilibrium look like that on the 2D graph instead of a standard bell curve

in elastic collisions the speeds do not change. how's the distribution changing?

Great content, thank you. I once build something similar a physical simulation gamed called algodoo, where i had a piston and pushing it in increased the speed of the particles, equivalent to increase in temp. Maybe that's an interesting addition to this.

whats the utility of this? O mean whwre the hell you would find a 2d gas? Gas molecules evolve free in 3D
