This is a 3½ minute educational rant, so if your attention span taps out at “I ain’t listening to all that,” this probably ain’t for you. But if you’ve got a few minutes and actually care about women’s sports, media, representation, body politics, and why some of us keep responding to shit people dismiss as “just rage bait,” come on in. Art has always been used as a form of resistance, response, and cultural commentary. Sometimes the clapback is the least important part of the conversation. What feels obvious to you may not be obvious to somebody else. What looks like “just marketing” still participates in a larger culture. And when women’s sports are finally getting more attention, more money, and more visibility, it matters how women athletes are being presented, who gets centered, and what kind of femininity is still being treated as the most marketable. But on some real shit, I’m also tired of the catch 22 creators get put in: “Use your platform.” “Say something.” “Speak up.” Anytime some of us creators actually say something people don’t agree with—or something they dismiss as irrelevant—now you’re “just an influencer,” engagement farming, clout chasing, or doing too much. I’ve even caught other influencers saying the same shit because they don’t want to be “that influencer.” Well, fuck that and fuck you—respectfully and disrespectfully. Having a platform doesn’t make my thoughts less informed. Everyone is capable of doing research and at times, getting it wrong. Creating content doesn’t automatically make the work shallow. And frankly, responding to culture through my own body, participation in sport, and my own art doesn’t mean that people like me miss the point. Just in case you didn’t get it: THIS is the actual point. So if we can get past the clapbacks, the rage bait within the rage bait, and the urge to reduce every conversation to whether somebody “fell for the marketing,” there’s a much bigger discussion here. It’s three and a half fucking minutes. Bring your attention span and your critical thinking skills.
