@drderrickphillips: Think those lighter patches on your back are a fungal infection? Not always. This is progressive macular hypomelanosis. A condition that causes lighter patches, usually on the lower back or abdomen. It’s often confused with pityriasis versicolor, a fungal rash. In both conditions, the lighter colour is due to reduced pigment, but the cause is different. • Pityriasis versicolor: yeast interferes with pigment • Progressive macular hypomelanosis: likely linked to Cutibacterium acnes Because they look so similar, it’s easy to misdiagnose, and the treatment approach is different. #pigmentation #skinhealth #dermatologist
I’ve dealt with this for over 10 years. I’ve used shampoos and even been misdiagnosed with tinea versicolor. My dermatologist recently told me it was progressive macular melanosis. What are some recommendations i can use for my skin ?
