The auditor, Jeff Gray, eventually gave up his ID and they wrote him a citation for loitering. Very shortly thereafter, the city voided the citation and Gray did not have to attend court for it.

“I’m a nice guy…”. I’m sure I’m unlikely to know that because that would mean we know each other when you’re not playing cop. But nice or not nice has no place in your job. Be respectful, sure. But the way you act toward citizens should be predicated within the confines of the law. There’s no deal as in “here’s the deal”, deals are done in the courts by the circle of friends taking and passing around the money stolen from us. There’s legal and illegal. There’s innocent until proven guilty, which has gotten so upside down these days. There is upholding the constitutional laws and protecting the rights of the citizens who YOU SERVE. The very people that work, pay their taxes that are given to the agencies that hire you and pay you with those same taxes. And the most F*ked up part is when you violate our rights and bring a lawsuit, the very same people who have money taken away to pay you, are on the hook again to cover those settlements. Make it make sense

I'm always shocked that the police do not know who Jeff Gray is. One would think they would have his picture posted in their precinct so they would all be able to recognize him.
