I fly offshore out of an airport, usually on AW-139s or AW-189s. Its not uncommon for the pilots to actually do a rolling take-off down the runway. Never understood it because taking off from the rigs is always simply a vertical take off.

That’s interesting. I’m not sure how I would’ve handled that, you’re right you were cleared to takeoff on the runway so I guess doing an instant 180 would’ve drawn some attention.
