The worst part is that if that poor nurse makes a full recovery, she’ll be expected to go back to work, not complain, and management will likely interrogate her on what SHE could’ve done better to prevent the situation and make her do training modules. 🙄

yeah, it's ok that the nurse was stabbed, but we want pts and visitors to keep coming here, so please buy our bs line about safety.

Honestly. We don't get paid enough. People simply do not understand how dangerous our jobs are!

my coworker went in a room and found a variety of knives, took a pic with the charge phone and sent it to house phone and they went in and told him to put them up. no confiscation...👀

the AMOUNT of times i find drugs/ contraband and weapons like pocket knives on patients… is absolutely ridiculous. No one checks in the ED and this will continue to happen if hospitals dont do mandated checks

5.5 inches or lower and they can have it wherever they want… including in a hospital. Why does anyone need a damn pocket knife of any size in a hospital is beyond me. Anything higher and it SHOULD be restricted, but then, hospitals never check anyways.

Pinebox :
It’s not unusual for patients to come into hospitals and clinics with visible pocket knives.. those knives will only ever be taken from a patient if/when a healthcare worker calls security, unfortunately I know this

reminds me of what nearly happened in the er i work at just barely a week ago, a psych patient checked himself in and had a big duffle bag. so when they went to take all his stuff from him and put it in the safe he freaked out on security and was refusing. TURNS OUT HE HAD A KNIFE. he bypassed security up front at the entrance by blaming the metal detector going off on a knee replacement that he doesn’t have 😳 we are so lucky nothing bad happened to our nurses and techs because he absolutely had every bad intention..

im sorry, but if she was checking on him cause he was out of bed...hes most likely got dementia, doesn't make it right but let's get real we get old people who get confused especially when not in own surroundings. Most hospitals have it on there admit questions to ask about weapons, did he have no family present on admission? A little bit too smug in your reporting of this

And he will get a slap on the wrist because of his age. Meanwhile the hospital does nothing but give BS lip service.

Had 2 drunk patients come in via different ambulances. Didn’t know they were a couple til hours later. Once he was discharged he went after a “friend” in the waiting area, who was watching their stuff, with a 🔪 that he had on him the whole entire time. Luckily no one was hurt and he got a premium lift to jail.

notice how they didnt mention the Healthcare workers as part of safety. most places dont check patient belongings upon admission so he most likely had it with him when he went in. its Texas, everyone has a gun and/or a pocket knife.

What she doesn't say is that Administration called that nurse in later and probably asked her what she could have done differently to prevent this, because Admin always blames the nurse. This is part of why I'm so burned out on being a nurse.
