Hot rollers in the 80’s yes, pin curls no. But more often than not, we sprayed hairspray WHILE the curling iron was in our hair! My curling iron had a layer of crust on it from baked on hairspray 😆

Idk who told you that we gen xers did pin curls in the 80s but it’s incorrect. In the early 80s we had perms & sprayed a shit ton of Aquanet. Mid to late 80s we still used aquanet & teased the hell out of our bangs & o my used hot rollers to straighten & curl only the ends of our hair.

Graduated in ‘86 and yes I really did do this to my hair before bed throughout my junior and senior years because my mom wouldn’t let me perm my naturally wavy hair. My end result always looked more like Brooke Shields hair or Blair’s hair from the Facts of Life. By the way 40 years later I still do this before bed when I don’t want to blow dry or roller set my hair.
