also trying to develop your team but know they have no options for promotion and even if they do well you only have a small pool of money to distribute between them for bonus and raises and youre not allowed to give them exceeds expectations.

Sadly the solution is this. Remove the emotion. Document everything. Do not fall into the “work family” culture. Take acting and public speaking classes. Fill your cup outside of your work.

I'm went through this 6 months ago...my feedback was labeled as toxic and was brought to HR. 5 weeks of hell to end up with it being completely unfounded but no consequences to the direct report, instead I'm told to walk on eggshells. Where is my help??

also being chronically understaffed and not allow to fill open positions which means the staff are overworked & burnout too, and that overflows to you as the manager! taking on extra tasks because we dont have the staff adds to all of this 😭

As a leader, I felt this in my soul. Thank you for verbalizing this. I’ll add to the loneliness thing – some of us are in leadership positions were literally not allowed to even be friends with other peers because we have to be the role models for everyone. And because we work so many hours, there’s no time for friends or things outside of work… I am the emotional sponge and buffer for everyone and everyone asks me for advice or expects me to know what to do – other leaders included – and I don’t have anybody I can talk to. I don’t have a single friend at work or outside of work. Add to that view exhaustion of always having 1 million things to do and everybody saying everything is the priority – I’ve just given up trying to have any sort of control over my work, my career, my life. I’m just trying to get through every day without making anyone mad enough that my job will be in Jeopardy.

My line manager is pais 4* my salary. I empathise with her, but… I also work much more than her and still I’m subject to incredible pressure because I’m the one delivering most, so it’s not only about ‘vilanising’ and people should also understand that. Hope it gets better!
