I went home for the first time after 14 years. I was the odd one. I didn't know what I was doing.. all my old friends live abroad, and my parents are gone. I felt lost. I barely spent 10 days before I jumped on the plane and ran back to the country I reside in. Well, the country where my identity and sincerity are constantly questioned.. That's my sad state.

I used to think about this a lot, but not anymore. I’ve lived in four different countries throughout my life, and one thing I’ve learned is that we are all children of the Earth. Yes, cultural expectations vary. Yes, some people may never find a place for you in their hearts. But as long as you are sure of yourself, do good wherever you go, and spread positivity, you will be okay.

That’s how it is for me most of the time… Two of everything.. When I go back home, I’m “the diaspora.” When I return to the U.S., I’m “the refugee.” So where do I really belong? I love the country where I was born, it’s part of who I am. But I also love the country where I built my life, where my story kept going. Maybe the truth is… I belong to both. ❤️

One must develop the sense of home in itself. I'm from Bosnia, lived in the US and currently living in Germany. For me 3 languages, 3 places. Now home is wherever I am. That's it. Also carrying the burden of being not understood, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
