My great granfather fought in Verdun at just 16 years old, he luckily survived it, but I never got to meet him. My father told me he couldn't speak about the war, he always would become silent when it was mentioned

My grandad dug trenches with the Middlesex regiment for WW1. was gassed and bought back to the UK. I don't know anymore as he would never speak about it to my Dad and he died when I was 4 years old. seems unbelievable that I was alove at the same time as a person born in 1896 and fought in WW1. I do have his medals thought...otherwise known as pip and squeak!
