We have so many family farms closing the doors around us this year. Not gonna lie farming is extremely hard. The grain prices are the same as they were in the 70’s. And inputs have more then tripled. It makes sense right.

But everyone says that farmers put their prices up to cover the cost of the higher priced equipment and fuel. That's why food is so expensive.... If you only actually had the power to set the price. You just hope that it will be close to cover costs and you can hold on to enough so that if prices do climb you have enough to break even in the end.

With the high cost of inputs, grain and oilseed prices need to rise by 50%

Hopefully the prices go up as it is hard to get the farmers to bring their equipment in for green lights when the price is down like it is and they know they need the repairs…

A huge problem with the prices are the brokers. I have been hauling JGL grain to Bunge. So, why doesn't Bunge just offer the farmer a decent price instead of JGL making a profit in the middle?

A grain buyer has never been a friend. Too bad really, some seem like good guys & gals. Thier paid job is to buy commodities as cheap as they can. The cheaper they contract you into, the higher thier commission.
Simple.
I would love to be in a position to sit on crop, rotate it time to time, but just sit and wait for my number. I'm not old enough for that yet. 🤪🤪🤪🇨🇦

my dad sold durum for $7.50 and tractors were $60,000.00
now a tractor is over a million and durum is still $7.50
the only ones who can afford to stay in farming are the hutterites! because they are diversified! the worst thing is , is this is exactly what the government wants because it means cheaper food!
