I was a Cast Member for the Media Day opening for Indiana Jones. It was SO freaking fun to ride it like 20+ times in two days. I got to see George Lucas, Roy Disney Jr and so many other celebrities. I was bummed that Harrison Ford wasn't there.

even in the queue line the spikes dont drop and they dont have the loose bamboo stick that triggers the spikes 😭😭😭

So many great lost effects on this ride like the doors and the smoking snakes statues outside the temple 😔 I think you can still see signage for the ice conveyor system near the bathrooms by the loading area

Actually what the most likely is that Facilities and Maintenance managers saw an opportunity to save money. The reality is that once the new rides reach their one year old status, WDI loses control of the maintenance of the rides and an unqualified manager steps in. The goal on day one is to cut operating costs, the more money the manager doesn’t spend of their operating budget, is more money in a bonus at the end of the fiscal year. I worked in Technical Services for 8 years, on the holiday overlays of Small World and Haunted Mansion, This time is affectionately called “Money hydrant opening” we would find a business need for frivolous things, we wanted like expensive power tools, anything we could do to drain the budget because what you don’t spend one year you don’t get back the following year. The rides at disney parks fall into disrepair from a show standpoint until they reach 10 years old at which time major reconditioning will happen, but usually things like this effect will not get put back in unless a high level exec demands it and allocates the money.

they should have had it land on a heated drainage pan. sometimes I wonder about the engineering prowess of imagineers. Whenever you hear about part of an attraction being removed due to technical issues, they don’t seem like issues that should have been a surprise.

I got to woirk with a Disneyland Cast Member that got to open that attraction. From what they explained, it was just one part that broke from the ice machine. That's really it. But the factory that made the ice machine went out of business, so they couldn't replace the part. If you're wondering why they just don't replace the ice machine, a portion of the attraction was built around this ice machine. To remove it would require major construction.

What’s up with the fog effect covering the red and orange lighting at the bottom of the tumbling bridge scene as well? It looked so good when the fog used to cover the ground and lighting making it seem like it was a long boiling pit of lava at the bottom, now they just leave the lights on without any fog and it looks terrible, the orange and red lights that are supposed to be covered up are just there without fog and it sucks.

An imagineer who worked on it told me it’s because a small cheap part in the ice machine broke. But it’s almost impossible to get to it and there is no way to justify the cost of getting to it.
