At work, I don’t care about the title. I have career shifted laterally 4x. I’m earning more than some directors in Big 4 and to me that’s a lot better than chasing the career ladder.

so true! im a private nail tech and i get asked all the time when i’m going to get a ‘real job’. but i earn much more now than i would at an entry level corporate job.

Ooh so this is what it is. I’m currently low status high income, I have really lowered my expenses because I’m building my own home from the ground up. But I’m quietly doing it and not letting any of my friends around. They talk too much and do nothing at all 🙄

Totally relate to this - I recently changed sectors from something deemed ‘cool’ to construction/public sector and I’ve had a huge pay rise but at first was embarrassed to tell people?? Had to check my ego and get over myself 😂

maybe it’s wishful thinking but the perception of content creation being low status may change over time as more people in society understand the industry and recognise it as a legitimate job

i got a consulting job because there were layoffs at the biology lab i worked at and i was surprised and how people looked at me like i was so much better when i told them about this new job :( i always thought i was doing the coolest things at the lab

Same thing for me. I was a channel sales manager in Tech. Money and status. Now I'm in real estate. Very low status and I struggle with that perception on my ego everyday

honestly as long as the pay is good and the work actually keeps my brain engaged, I’m fine, I just haven’t been able to find something that checks both boxes without the status attached to it.
