In 1925, a man named Victor Lustig came to Paris with a completely insane plan. He had forged documents that made him look like a French government official. Then he invited several scrap-metal dealers to a private meeting and told them the Eiffel Tower was going to be demolished. According to Lustig, the tower had become too expensive to maintain, so the government wanted to secretly sell it off as scrap metal. And somehow, one of the businessmen believed him. Lustig studied the men carefully and picked the one he thought he could convince. The businessman eventually paid him a huge amount of money along with a bribe to secure the deal. Lustig took the money and disappeared. But here's the crazy part. The businessman was so embarrassed that he didn't report Lustig to the police. Lustig realized he had gotten away with it. So he went back to Paris and tried to sell the Eiffel Tower AGAIN. This time, the buyer became suspicious and contacted the police. Lustig escaped before they could catch him. And the Eiffel Tower?
