Breastfeeding is a two-way experience ❤️ I’m a mum who learned something fascinating about newborn feeding that completely changed how I looked at breastfeeding, and I wanted to share it with other mums. Babies are born with incredible reflexes that help them find the breast, latch, suck and swallow. Sometimes, without meaning to, we can become so focused on getting the “perfect latch” that we can take over a process their little bodies are already designed to do. Breastfeeding isn’t just about mum. It’s about baby’s experience too. It’s a relationship between two bodies, two nervous systems and two people learning each other. Sometimes our role is not to control the latch, but to support baby and give those natural reflexes the opportunity to lead. In today’s LIVE, we talked about newborn feeding reflexes, rooting and seeking, creating a calm feeding environment, and recognising when we might need additional breastfeeding support.
