“I’m a threat and that’s okay.” | PROJECT RUNWAY CANADA x CHARLES LU Episode 6: Bata Shoe Museum Challenge — “Step It Up” Placement: Safe The designers visit Toronto’s iconic @batashoemuseum to choose a standout shoe as inspiration for a full look that reflects its style. For this challenge, we headed to the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, where each of us selected a shoe to inspire an entire look. I was picked last — and ended up with a fluffy white stiletto, which was not my first choice. Instead of going the expected route with old Hollywood or boudoir references, I wanted to challenge myself creatively. I chose a palette of pastel blues, baby pinks, and soft whites, layering them over a nude, people-strapless bodice. From the top up, I wanted the look to read as a dress — romantic and soft — while pairing it with a blue satin pant to introduce contrast. The trousers were intentional and a risk. They added dimension, a hint of masculinity, and edge, grounding the softness of the palette. The pant was the only element in blue — everything else stayed light and airy — allowing the shoe to remain the focal point. I designed the entire outfit to frame the stiletto rather than compete with it, making sure it was never hidden. This challenge was about letting go, exploring colour, and having fun — even when the starting point wasn’t what I would have chosen. Sometimes design is about trusting the experiment. A huge thank you to my beautiful model, @Eunique B, for walking with such confidence and truly bringing the look to life. You sold every moment of it.
